Seattle's 'Travel Light' Begins Service Saturday, July 18th
Saturday is the day--light rail in Seattle, I thought it would never get here. A 14 mile segment from Downtown Seattle to Tukwila opens Saturday then and a 1.7 mile extension to Sea-Tac Airport opens hopefully by the end of that year. And you can ride free on opening weekend. Ok, it's not as cool as Portland's light rail, but we'll get there someday.
Check out the Sound Transit website to get a preview of what's to come in animations or to check out the schedules and fares for adults, seniors and youth. It looks like initial fares will be around $2.50 for the longest rides.
The city of Phoenix recently opened a 20 mile line with 28 stops last December and ridership statistics are beating all forecasts with 40,000 daily riders instead of the 25,000 expected. Seattle's "Travel Light" services begins July 18th between Westlake and SeaTac Airport. Can we expect to see those numbers here?
Be sure to check out the Phoenix light rail starter video from StreetFilms to get a real-live preview of what we can expect.
