Marymoor is the Eastside's premier outdoor playground and the most popular park in the King County system. It has been known to be titled the Bentley of all dog parks.
Located in Redmond, Marymoor offers miles of well-maintained open space, endless wheat fields, a dog meet up area, water holes (with several entries into the water for aqua-dogs), large open spaces (for ball/Frisbee throwing etc.) , bridges, bark covered trails (for walks) and usually has a healthy variety of dogs for the ever-important socialization factor. Sometimes it even has ducks (for the dogs who are avid bird watchers).
Voted by hundreds of wagging tails as the best dog park on the Eastside, Marymoor is like Disneyland for dogs. So obviously, we already know what our dogs think, but I wanted to get a vote from some human owners as well. I had chance to interview a handful of dog owners in which I was able to get some great advice. Below you will find some of their highlights and not so favorite things about Marymoor.
Marymoor Highlights
- Lots of water access points, which seem to be a good idea for spreading out the water-loving dogs a bit.
- Abundance of room to roam.
- Nicely maintained trails.
- lots of bag stations well stocked with plenty of rolls of bags for cleanup
- Dog wash station! I could see this being useful on a particularly muddy day.
- multiple water areas
- well maintained grounds
- Ample parking.
- Garbage, poop bags and benches readily available.
- An ice-cream truck for dogs is often around selling doggie treats and people treats.
- Self service dog wash station is available next to the parking lot.
- A lot of times there a mobile dog grooming van.
- Ample parking.
- Typically friendly people with well socialized dogs.
Marymoor Low Down
- Park is not entirely fenced.
- Too many parents bringing their little kids and giving them little to no supervision.
- If your dog has any anxiety about being ganged up on, don't go on the weekends.
- Weekends are very crowded.
- Parking is $1 (or risk $150 fine).
- There is not a water drinking area offered for thirsty dogs.
- There are some gaps here and there so the park is not entirely enclosed but if you are not
- Not a recommend park for little or nervous dogs since the park mostly attracts large dogs. If you live on the eastside, an alternative might be to take your little dogs to Bellevue Park.
- The water seemed pretty deep right near the banks of the river.
Remember to Bring...
- $1 cash fee for parking.
- Leash (Parking lot can get busy, people aren’t always looking for dogs, and your dog might refuse to come home!).
- Bring water (and a water dish) for your thirsty dog.
- A towel if your Dog is a swimmer; or if it is muddy out.
- A ball or Frisbee If your dog doesn’t mind sharing.
We hope this gives our Local Green Circle readers some helpful insight on what Marymoor has to offer, and why we give it two paws up.
