How often do you go a day? According to the United States Geological Survey, every flush is an average of 3 gallons of clean water going down the toilet. Multiply that by each person in the U.S. plus their frequency of visiting the lavatory etc. You get the point. It doesn't take a h2o scientist to understand the importance of water conservation.
Need tips? Urine luck! Here are some suggestions on 'Peeing' Green:
- If it's yellow, let it mellow. Ask yourself if you really need to flush each time you pee? Contrary to popular belief, pee is actually sterile.
- Multitask: go in the shower.
- Pee outside. Just make sure that whatever your alternate method is, you're conserving water and being legal. This means avoiding reliving yourself in public, on public property, and this also includes your neighbor's yard, or your own food garden.
- Go in a your garden. It surprisingly makes a green fertilizer rich in potassium, phosphorus, and especially nitrogen. Because it contains salt, its a bit too powerful to apply directly on plants. Create your own green fertilizer: Mix it together with Greywater (Combine the majority of greywater to urine). When using your signature recipe fertilizer, make sure not to apply the urine to the leaves of the plants. The urine needs to go in the soil around it.
- Go in your compost (as long as it's not used for your food garden).
- Go in your lawn. No need to Dilute.
Good luck and keep it green!
