Be A Green Valentine
Instead of spending money on something that will more than likely end up in the trash (trust us, landfills don't want it either), step away from the Valentine mainstream of endless consumption and really shine by being a green valentine. Not only will your intentions be more thoughtful, your gift won't negatively effect the planet. So if Valentine's Day is an important day for you, consider being a green Valentine this year!
We've provided a list of Valentines day gifts and ideas with the planet in mind.
Here's some ideas:
- Look for cards made from recycled or tree-free paper (indicated on the back of card).
- Send customized e-cards.
- Give fair trade and/or organic chocolate; some chocolates even give a percentage of their profit to a good cause (indicated on packaging).
- Arrange dinner at a local restaurant specializing in organic, vegetarian/vegan, or locally grown food.
- Prepare an intimate dinner at home.
- Choose organic and/or locally grown flowers. Buying locally-grown flowers means that it's one less bouquet that has to be shipped from hundreds of thousands of miles away.
- Give the gift of well being and relaxation with a gift certificate for a holistic spa service for two.
-Make a donation to animals in need (ASPCA, Farm Sanctuary, or The Human Society to name a few) on behalf of your loved one(s).
- Make a donation to an environmental organization on behalf of your loved one(s).
- Adopt an acre from around the world on behalf of your loved one(s); http://bit.ly/4HmVCF
- Book a retreat in a wildlife reserve, park or natural area. Your business will help support the running of such establishments.
- Giving jewelry? Purchase from jewelers who are certified for sourcing precious metals and gemstones in an ecologically and socially responsible manner.
So instead of buying a bunch of valentine related things this year do something more creative and personal for the one(s) you love and your planet.
Have An Eco-Friendly Valentine’s Day!
