Make the holidays truly fruitful by creating your own edible fruit tree! Whether you are hosting a holiday party, going to one, or just looking for a merry way for your family to spend some festive time together, this project is a sweet treat for all to share.
What you will need:
- Plate, platter, or tray
- Foam cone/tree from any craft store
- Lettuce leaves
- Shaped cookie cutters (we used a small star cookie cutter)
- 1 box of toothpicks
- Assorted fruits: kiwi, cranberries, green grapes, raspberries, pineapple, blackberries, and cantaloupe
- Large granulated sugar (optional)
Assembling your fruit tree:
- Cover foam tree with lettuce leaves and place on plate.
- Thoroughly wash and dry fruit; cut, seed or core any necessary fruit such as kiwi, cantaloupe, pineapple etc.
- Use cookie cutters to cut desired fruit shapes. (we used a small star cookie cutter for the pineapple slices and a 1/4 rounded teaspoon to scoop out tiny balls of cantaloupe).
- Place fruit on toothpicks and insert in foam tree.
- Optional: sprinkle tree with granulated sugar to give it a temporary frosted look and significantly sweeter taste, or simply sprinkle sugar around the base of the plate for easy dipping.
- Enjoy!
