Most kids prefer their Halloween bags be full of "treats" instead of "tricks". With a lot of negative feedback from elementary aged kids interviewed, 9 of the 10 kids, demonstrated their negative opinion about raisins; they felt raisins were more of a trick than a treat. Along with organic apples, and crackers handed out by well meaning parents and adults. Raisins got a serious thumbs down from kids for Halloween treats.
There is still "tricks" if you will, on ways to get nutrition into your little ones with the satisfaction your kids want from they're "treats". This year hand out the best tasting organic candy around! There are healthier options out there with zero preservatives or artificial flavor. Ideal Bite offers some great suggestions on some tasty organic alternatives.
- Endangered Species Bug Bites- scrumptious and individually wrapped, bite-size organic dark (so lots of antioxidants) chocolates. Also: a milk chocolate and Mint Chimps Mint Chocolates ($32/64 pieces).
- Yummy Earth Lollypops- Made with actual organic fruit in eight assorted flavors ($32/350 'pops).
- Surf Sweets Gummy Bearsminipacks of nice 'n' gummy bears made with fruit sugar instead of corn syrup ($34/50 packs).
- Cliff Kid Z Bars organic oat snack bars that taste way better than your average granola bar - try the new Spooky S'more flavor ($14/18 bars).
- Candy Tree Toffee- juicy, chewy, fruity vegan (no milk) toffee ($4/about 15 pieces).
- Pure Fun Fruit Pinwheels- real-fruit lemon, pomegranate, raspberry, and tangerine hard candies that look kinda like peppermints.
Even though it's a small change, going organic with your Halloween candy supports sustainable agriculture. Happy Halloween!
